pH PAPER

FOR TESTING THE STRENGTH OF CHEMICALS DURING DESCALING AND AFTER NEUTRALISING

Method of use:

  • Dip a piece of pH indicator paper into the liquid to be tested for a few seconds.
  • Remove the strip from the test solution and compare the resultant colour with the colour card on the dispenser by holding the test strip adjacent to the dispenser.

For reference:

pH less than 2 = strongly acidic (the pH of Pepsi-Cola or Ribena is 2.6!)

Distilled water has a pH of 7 (tap water varies between ca. 6.8 and 7.2 and is generally slightly alkaline in hard water areas)

pH greater than 12 = strongly alkaline

Before discharging descaling solution to waste, ensure that pH value is at least 5, using NEUTRALISING CRYSTALS to increase the pH value if necessary.
